How do I pay for a birthday or other special event (not weddings)?
Cupid Cupcakery requires full payment the same day an order is placed. An order is not booked and guaranteed until payment is received. Dates are reserved on a first come, first paid basis. We do not accept payment on delivery. We accept cash and secure credit/debit card payments through PayPal & Google Checkout. We will only accept a check for payment if there are at least 10 days between the date we receive your check and the required delivery date. This is to allow for bank processing time.

Why are your cakes more expensive than my local grocery store?
Our customers are looking for a custom-designed cake made with high quality ingredients and design expertise. Our design work extends beyond baking and in to other art forms, like painting and sculpting. It takes to more time and higher quality ingredients to produce a custom cake. These cakes are done one at a time to your specifications - they are not mass produced using cakes that have been frozen for months and shipped from store to store. Because of the custom nature of our cakes and the extensive time and talent it takes to create them, they're priced higher than the cake what you might order at a grocery store.

Our cakes start at $3.00/serving for a buttercream finish, $3.50/serving for a fondant finish, and $5.00/serving for carved and 3D cakes. Please be sure our cakes fit within your event budget before contacting Cupid.

What is fondant?
Fondant is the super-smooth rolled icing made from sugar dough you see on all the cakes in magazines. It is rolled out and draped over the buttercream frosted tiers, then smoothed, polished, trimmed and detailed. Some fondant designs can be translated into buttercream nicely, but there are times when only fondant will do. Frankly, I prefer to execute cake design using fondant, because the results look more perfect. All of Cupid's fondant covered cakes have a layer of buttercream underneath the fondant, which seals in the moistness of the cake, and allows Cupid to create designs that depend on the versatile, creative properties of fondant. Some designs are possible in buttercream, and some are not.

If you want a minimalistic cake with a smooth, clean finish with ribbon trim on each tier or no piping, fondant is the only way to go. With this sort of popular "less is more" type of design, the finish must be perfectly smooth to look its best, and fondant does that extremely well.

Can you make me an Elmo/Mickey Mouse/Chanel/Spongebob or other licensed character cake?
We do not produce cakes or cupcakes that infringe on or explicitly violate trademark and copyright laws, as there are legal issues dealing specifically with how these images can be used. If you would like a cake or cupcakes that incorporates figurines into a background theme that works with those character designs, then Cupid would be happy to design and execute that kind of treat.

How much will my cake cost?
Our cakes start at $3.00/serving for a buttercream finish, $3.25/serving for buttercream with fondant or modelling chocolate accents, $3.50/serving for a fondant finish, and $5.00/serving for carved and 3D cakes. Multiply the number of servings you need by the cost per serving for the finish you are looking for (eg: 100 servings X $3.00/serving for buttercream = $300) for a ballpark cost. The ultimate cost will be based on the complexity of design, as sugarpaste flowers, models, figures and extensive decorating take more time to execute, and will therefore cost more. Please be sure our cakes fit within your event budget before contacting Cupid.

What do your require to save my wedding date?
We require a non-refundable $100 deposit AND a signed contract to secure your wedding date.
Event dates are reserved on a first come, first paid basis. Please note that simply stating you would like to book with us does not secure a date. A deposit and a contract are both required to book the date, no exceptions. No contract/deposit, no cake.

How soon do I need to order my cake/cupcakes?
We book up very quickly, sometimes as much as a year in advance. We suggest you order as soon as you have decided on venue, colors and flowers. We do limit the amount of events we will do in a given week, so order early! Please take note of the dates we are booked/closed listed above before inquiring. Click here to contact Cupid Cupcakery. We are closed on Sundays and Mondays, so plan to order early.

How do I schedule a wedding tasting/consultation?

Cupid Cupcakery suggests that your cake be one of the last things to be booked, as it unites all the elements of an event.

Tastings and consultations are by appointment only for events with 75 or more servings, on Wednesday or Thursday evenings. For consultations for events with more than 75 servings, we meet our clients in a public place for consultations, or their home if they would prefer. The first 1 hr. consultation is free, so the more prepared we both are, the more we can accomplish. Additional consultations are billed at 25.00 for 30 minutes.

For events ordering less than 75 servings, Cupid offers design consultations through email or over the phone, as well as takeaway tasting boxes for $10, with up to four flavor selections included. If you choose to book with Cupid, the cost of the tasting box will be applied to your order. Tasting boxes are available for pickup at Cupid on Saturday mornings only, between 10am and noon, subject to the events and orders scheduled that Saturday. Orders for tasting boxes must be placed and paid for no later than Friday at noon.

Check our current event date availability at the top of the FAQ page before contacting us, as I will only schedule a tasting with you if your event date is available. Please limit the group to 4 people.

Please contact Cupid Cupcakery with the following information to schedule a tasting:

• Event Date
• Type of Event
• How many people you need to serve
• Phone Number
• Email Address
• Up to four (4) flavors from our flavor list you would like to taste. Additional flavors beyond 4 can be tasted for a nominal fee of $10 per additional flavor. If you book with Cupid, the fee will be applied to your final balance.

If available, please bring the following with you:

• A general idea of what kind of cake/cupcake design you are looking for: shapes, styles, etc.
• A photo of the venue
• A copy of your wedding invitation
• A photo of the brides dress and bridesmaids dresses
• Color samples or fabric swatches
• Magazine clippings

Can you duplicate a cake or cupcake design that I have seen elsewhere?
Many times we can use another design as inspiration. Remember that the cakes you see in magazines, on the internet or on popular cake TV shows begin at $1000 and go up from there. Also, custom baking is just that... each cake by a custom baker will vary just a bit based on the skills, budget and ability. You can certainly have one that is close to the picture and you may not even see a difference, but custom cakes made one at a time and not mass produced will have some differences, always, so it will not be an exact copy.

Can you match the color of my bridesmaid's dresses/on my invitation/on my partyware?
If you are looking for a very specific color, you must give us a fabric swatch, an invitation, a plate, or some other item containing the color you are looking for. We will match it to the best of our ability, but cannot and will not guarantee a perfect color match. Please understand that food colorings are not typical dyes or paints and can be affected by a number of elements, like the frosting or fondant type you choose, or the lighting used where the cake is displayed. Colors can appear different in different lighting, whether it is outdoors, under spotlights or a dim candle-lit venue. If an exact color match is vitally important to you, please let us know when you place your order and we will do our best to accommodate you.

How much/what size cake will I need?
The size of your cake is determined by how many servings you will need. We suggest ordering one serving per guest if the cake will be the only dessert offered. If you are offering a dessert table or sweet buffet, order enough cake for 2/3 the number of guests attending, as not everyone will eat cake.

How do I cut a wedding cake? What about a party cake?
Wedding and party cakes should not be cut in wedges. The industry standard serving size is a rectangle about the size of a piece of bread folded in half. For cake cutting instructions with pictures, check out this fabulous cake cutting guide from Debi Brim, a retired caterer in Indianapolis.

How many cupcakes will I need?
We suggest one standard size cupcake per guest. We no longer offer minis, because they have a tendency to dry out very quickly.

Do you have cake plateaus, cake stands, cupcake stands or cupcake towers available for display?
Yes, we do! Cupid Cupcakery has cake plateaus, cake plates, cupcake stands or towers available for rental for your wedding or special event. Click here to see our cupcake stand or tower rentals. If you would like a disposable cupcake stand or tower for smaller events like a birthday or a shower, with 5 dozen or fewer cupcakes, we can custom make a stand for you that will match the theme of your party.
